18.10.2008. In August and September 2008 visitors of FanDamme.net filled out
our 'Van Damme Survey' and gave their opinion about Jean-Claude van Damme.

A very high score, despite the movies of  Van Damme in the last years we're mostly rated lower than the movies he made in the 80's and 90's. Van Damme is loved most because of his Martial Arts capabilities, shortly followed by his looks and body.

Aldo Van Damme's looks and his body are rated very high, that's not the mainreason of Van Damme's popularity.

Fans love Jean-Claude van Damme because he's a very strong man; physically, mentally and it seems he never gives up. Van Damme is known as a very driven person and very focused. He puts so much passion into anything he does and that why he is so great in everything he does. Van Damme understands what is important in life. He really relays how a person should be to others not only outside his movies but even in them. Van Damme really followed his dreams and never gave up. For many persons Bloodsport was the reason to get into martial arts. In Bloodsport Van Damme is in great condition, he performs very well, the training session gets your adreiline pumping, the fighting is awsome.... GO Van Damme!!!!! Van Damme  is a real human being, he made mistakes, but learnt from them, he has real passion for his life and work, he is full of life. He inspires a lot of people to become better ones! An inspiration to never give up and follow your dreams, while having fun doing it! He created by himself his wonderful career. Van Damme is an example; he started with nothing and he made it big. Not everybody has that willpower, but Van Damme has. He believe's that you're dreams can come true and if you work hard and do your best it will happen one day. People like his honesty in his interviews about his life and that reflects in his movies. Van Damme is an inspiration because how he doesn’t use violence as an excuse to kill people, but he uses it to explain wrong from right. He made people love action movies, and people loves that he is still making great movies after more than 20 years. Van Damme is a great figure for action movies. People grew up watchin his film. For many fans, Jean-Claude has the best body in the world. - a very good actor - and is a perfect fighter - a combination that makes him a role model for everybody who likes action movies, fighting, shooting and things like that. He's not only a Fighter, he made a new style of the martial arts movies... The 360°C Kick, the split... He came to success, fell from success, and is now re-evaluating himself and his career and that is respectable...

Looking Van Damme's movies never gets boring. 78% of Van Damme's fans at least watch one JCVD-movie each Month,
and +/- 50% of Van Damme's fans does this each week!








Which genre do fans prefer for future Van Damme movies?

Well, it looks like fans just want more Van Damage, and want to return their hero back to the days of Wrong Bet, Kickboxer and Bloodsport. 47% of the fans would love to see Van Damme in a Martial Arts movie again, aldo for 39% the action genre is also ok. Only 14% of the people would like to see Van Damme in a softer role. On the other hand, Van Damme once said that he would love to do a comedy, and 62% of the fans agrees with him.

What's your opinion about the violence in Van Damme's movies?

Jean-Claude's movies are full of violence. For example, in many countries 'Hard Target' was re-cut because of all the violence, in 'The Replicant' the violence in very strong and against innocent people. In Wake of Death a man is tortured with a drilling macine, and in 'In Hell" Van Damme bites a man to dead. Still most fans (54%) are not satisfied and want even harder Van Damage...   And 70% of the fans would love to see Van Damme again as badguy, like he did before in 'No Retreat, No Surrender' and 'The Replicant'.

Thanks for some of the great films you made. You've been an inspiration to me growing up watching your films. I hope you carry on and I would love to see you on the big screen again.

Please try to be like some characters you played at the beginning of your career, try to learn new martial arts, a new sytem. Improve new. Do never talk that bad about your old producers like Golan again, they gave you the chance. Ah one more thing, kick you EGO in the ass, you now why "The Shepherd" was a loss... Work with the others and hear what they say, don´t do just your thing, trust them!

Mr. Van Damme, I want to thank you. You've inspired me to write action movies and take up Martial Arts. You're one of my biggest role models and have been following your career since I rented Kickboxer at the age of 4. Thank you very much for the great action films and I can only hope for the best in your career as well as your family.

Man,you inspire me to train harder and harder

You have been very good, but nowadays it seems you are just a shadow of "Van Damme"... You were very close to the peak but unfortunetely you never hear on what producer and agents say. This is why your career is over. Find back to your old inner warrior. He should take some cameo appearances such as Rush hour 3, he should work besides superstars.

I would say that he is a legend, and should do whatever it takes to get back to the big screen again!

I would for sure cry when I saw him, but I would first of all say "do I'm dreaming!"

Help me acheive the splits, and stong enough legs to hold my kicks that high!

I have watched your movies for many years some of those movies have inspired me like Bloodsport,lionheart, I would tell JC if he knew Jesus Christ as personal savior if I got to know him a bit I hope to see him talk against drugs program.

I would speak about martial arts philosophy and its link with everyday life style. I'll tell him how much I've been (and I am) impressed by his carreer and that he really left his mark in the field of cinema... To finish I'll certainly ask him for a role in his next movie, even as an extra !!! But sincerely, I'd probably be impressed by him at first and have a time of hesitation before talking.

Dude, your the man. First and foremost I am a huge fan of your work. Blood sport, Time Cop, and Universal Soldier, are some of my favorite action films of all time. My favorite thing to do as a kid was see your films on the big screen, this helped fuel my passion for movies and provided a bonding experience with my grandparents and friends that I will forever be thankful for.
